1 – Removing rear underbody protection

Remove screws (arrows).
Guide out rear underbody protection (1) and remove it.

Remove screws (arrows).
Slide the underbody protection 1 out and remove.

Feed out the rear underbody protection (1).

Remove screws (arrows).
Guide out rear underbody protection (1) and remove it.

Remove screws (arrows).

3 – Removing rear underbody protection

Remove screws (arrows).
Guide out underbody protection (1) and remove it.

Remove screws (arrows).
Guide out underbody protection (1) and remove it.
5 – Remove the right footwell trim

Unclip the right footwell trim (1) toward the inside in this area (2).
Turn the locks (3) by 90°.
Detach the right footwell trim (1) inward from the guides (4).
Unlock associated plug connection and disconnect.
6 – Remove the right footwell trim

Turn the locks (1) by 90°.
Detach the footwell trim on the right (3) from the guides (2) toward the inside.
Unlock associated plug connection and disconnect.
Remove the footwell trim on the right (3).
7 – Remove microfilter for passenger compartment ventilation

Detach screws (1) to the cover of the microfilter housing (2).
Pull off the water drain hose (3).

Disengage the latch mechanisms (1).
Guide out and remove cover of microfilter housing (2) on guides (3).

Remove both microfilters for interior ventilation (1) from the microfilter housing (2) in a downwards direction.
8 – Remove microfilter for passenger compartment ventilation

Detach screws (1) to the cover of the microfilter housing (2).
Pull off the water drain hose (3).

Disengage the latch mechanisms (1).
Guide out and remove cover of microfilter housing (2) on guides (3).

Remove both microfilters for interior ventilation (1) from the microfilter housing (2) in a downwards direction.

9 – Cleaning evaporator
Prerequisite
Vehicle is parked in a suitable washing bay, as the emerging cleaning agent escapes through the drain openings on the transmission tunnel.

Pour air conditioning system cleaning agent into the spray gun.

Connect special tool 2 414 999 to spray gun.
Build pressure in spray gun.

Close all the ventilation outlets.
Set air conditioning to air recirculation function.
Cover carpet in working area.
Position the special tool 2 414 999 in the rear opening of the microfilter housing (2) as shown.
Hold the special tool 2 414 999 at the handle (1) with your right hand and in the area (3) with your left hand.
Insert the special tool 2 414 999 in the direction of the arrow into the microfilter housing (2) to the stop.

Position special tool 2 414 999 in lower limit position as shown.
Move special tool 2 414 999 back and forth from lower to upper limit position (1).
At the same time, move the special tool 2 414 999  slightly from right to left (2). 
Keep moving the special tool 2 414 999 back and forth until the air conditioning system cleaning agent has been fully sprayed.
After completing cleaning, allow the vehicle to drip-dry for approx. 5 minutes.
Postprocesses
10 – Installing the microfilter for the interior ventilation

Align the microfilter for interior ventilation (2) so that the arrows (1) on the microfilters for interior ventilation (2) point to the direction of travel during the installation.

Slide both microfilters for interior ventilation (1) up into the microfilter housing (2).

Guide in cover of microfilter housing (2) into guides (3).
Engage latch mechanisms (1).

Tighten screws (1) to the cover of the microfilter housing (2).
Microfilter lid on heating and air-conditioning unit

Connect water drain hose (3).
11 – Installing the microfilter for the interior ventilation

Align both microfilters for interior ventilation (2) so that the arrows (1) on the components point in the direction of travel during installation.

Slide both microfilters for interior ventilation (1) up into the microfilter housing (2).

Guide in cover of microfilter housing (2) into guides (3).
Engage latch mechanisms (1).

Tighten screws (1) to the cover of the microfilter housing (2).

Connect water drain hose (3).
12 – Install the right footwell trim panel

Connect associated connector.
Attach the right footwell trim (1) to the guides (4) and fold up.
Clip the right footwell trim (1) into the centre console in area (2).
Insert locks (3) correctly and turn 90°.
13 – Install the right footwell trim panel

Connect and lock corresponding connectors.
Attach the footwell trim on the right (3) to the guides (2) and fold it up.
Insert locks (1) correctly and turn 90°.
14 – Removing residual air conditioner cleaner from the heating and air-conditioning unit
Set air conditioning to footwell ventilation and fresh air mode.
Open side windows/doors.
Start the vehicle and let the air conditioning run for approx. 5minutes at maximum blower output.
15 – Installing underbody protection at rear

19 – Removing the remaining air conditioning cleaning agent residue from the heating and air-conditioning unit before handover to the customer
Set air conditioning to footwell ventilation and fresh air mode.
Open side windows/doors.
Start the vehicle and let the air conditioning run for approx. 5minutes at maximum blower output.
