11 41 010Removing and installing/replacing chain module for oil pump (N20, N26)

Special tools required:

Caution!
The counterbalance shaft must be adjusted to the motor.

Necessary preliminary work:

Installation note:

Wet special tool 2 219 548 with oil to simplify dismantling and installation.


Secure crankshaft with special tool 2 219 548 via the dowel hole.

Secure camshafts with special tool 83 30 2 212 831  (procedure: see ‘Check timing’).

Release screw (1).

Detach intake snorkel (2) in direction of arrow.

Remove sealing cap using a screwdriver.
Caution!

Only open central bolt of oil pump with special tool.


Secure special tool 2 212 825 to oil pump with screw (1).

The counterbalance shaft is now secured.

Push back chain tensioner with tensioning rail (1) and secure with special tool 11 4 120 .

Note:

Sprocket must be blocked with special tool 2 318 117 in order to release central bolt (2).


Mount special tool 2 318 117 and secure with screws (3).

Release central bolt (2) for oil pump drive shaft.

Remove the special tool 2 318 117 .

Installation note:

Replace central bolt (2).


Tightening torque 11 41 5AZ.

Note:

Engine removed.


Block crankshaft with special tool 11 9 260 .
Note:

Engine installed with manual transmission:


Block crankshaft with special tool 11 8 180 .
Note:

Engine installed with automatic transmission:


Block crankshaft with special tool 2 222 742 .

Feed in special tool, slide screw forward and tighten.

or

Block crankshaft with special tool 11 8 660 .

Before releasing central bolt, remove special tool 2 219 548 .

Release central bolt (1).

Breakaway torque greater than 500 Nm.

Installation note:

Tighten central bolt (1) with 3/4 inch tool (2).


Screw in two screws (1) and pull off hub (2) in direction of arrow.

Release screws (1) and pull off chain module (2) off of oil pump drive shaft.

Tightening torque 11 41 3AZ .

Caution!

After loosening the central screw, only sprockets (1) with a laser structure are permitted.


For the laser structure on the sprocket (1), see arrow.

Sprockets with grip discs are no longer permissible.

Installation note:

Observe mounting flats on camshaft sprocket (1).


Before installation: Press back chain tensioner with tensioning rail and secure with special tool 11 4 120 .

Caution!
Grip disc (1) is only installed on vehicles with manual gearbox.

Installation note:

Grip disc (1) must be removed (manual gearbox only)

If the grip disc (1) is mounted, the central bolt can come loose (engine damage).


Caution!

The sprocket on the oil pump must be renewed.

It is necessary to replace the chain drive with a laser structure.


Position module (1) for oil pump drive.

Position module (2) for camshaft drive.

Insert hub (3) for vibration absorber with grip disc.

Position chain module (2) for oil pump drive shaft on mounting flats.

Insert bolts (1).

Tightening torque: 11 41 3AZ.

Note:

Camshaft sprocket must be blocked with special tool 2 318 117 in order to tighten central bolt (2).

 


Mount special tool 2 318 117 and secure with screws (3).

Insert and tighten central bolt (2) for oil pump drive shaft.

Installation note:

Renew screw.

Tightening torque 11 41 5AZ.


Remove special tools 11 4 120 and 2 318 117 .

Insert central bolt.

Secure central bolt with special tool 00 9 140 .

Tightening torque 11 21 1AZ.

Position magnetic foot (1) in suitable location.

Installation note:

Replace front crankshaft seal.


Assemble engine.
