The Telematic Control Unit (TCU) is located on the left-hand side of the luggage compartment, on the wheel arch.

The Telematic Control Unit (TCU) is located on the partition wall behind the left-hand rear seat.

The Telematic Control Unit (TCU) is located on the floor panel in the luggage compartment.

The illustration shows the E90. The TCU is fitted to the luggage compartment floor. Other control units may be fitted, depending on the vehicle's equipment.

1 Telematic Control Unit (TCU 2 Interface box High
(ULF-SBX-H)
Important: From 03/2007, TCU and ULF-SBX-H possible together in the model series.

From this point in time on, the two control units can be fitted at the same time.

The interface box High (ULF-SBX-H) then serves solely option 6FL ”USB audio interface”. The functions are encoded as inactive.

Construction

The Telematic Control Unit (TCU) has a modular construction and is fitted with the following features:

  • Transmitter/receiver module (NAD, Network Access Device)
  • GPS receiver
  • Aerial selector for telephone aerial 1 (CDMA/AMPS) and emergency aerial
  • Bluetooth module (transceiver unit)
  • Voice recognition module

How it works

The TCU is connected to the MOST bus via the 2-pin connector.
The 54-pin connector provides the connections to the vehicle electrical system, the base plate with snap-in adapter and the emergency call components.

The TCU provides the following functions:

  • Telematic services
  • Hands-free mode via bluetooth
  • Voice recognition system
