Repair instructions for drying the headlamps

Use the following procedure to dry the headlamps, continuing until the condensation disappears completely.

Repair instructions:

1. Drying process when headlight is installed:

  • Connect battery charger to the vehicle
  • Remove or open all bulb covers that can be accessed with the headlight installed
  • Switch on low and high beams, leaving them on until the condensation disappears completely

    Note: The drying process can take up to 30 minutes!

  • If condensed water still remains in the headlight following the drying procedure then it will be necessary to remove the headlight by following the repair instructions, and then to dry it by blowing hot air, continuing until the condensation has thoroughly evaporated. If necessary, the headlight is to be dried through the service cover opening, blinker opening or the control unit openings. After the visible condensation disappears, continue to apply hot air for an additional period of approx. 3 minutes in order to ensure that all residual moisture is discharged from the headlight.

    Note: To avoid damaging the headlight ensure that the temperature on the hot air blower is set to 50-70° C. A temperature of 80 °C may not be exceeded in any case.

    Note: In order to prevent dirt or dust from getting into the headlight, dry the headlight on a clean and dry workbay!

  • Install bulb cover and mounted parts on the headlamp, ensuring that the seals seat correctly
  • Follow the repair instructions to install the headlamps

2. Drying process when headlight is not installed:

  • Remove or open all headlight bulb covers
  • Dry headlight with hot air until the condensation has completely evaporated. If necessary, the headlight is to be dried through the service cover opening, blinker opening or the control unit openings. Once the condensation is no longer visible, continue drying with hot air for another 3 minutes in order to remove all residual moisture from the headlight

    Note: To avoid damaging the headlight ensure that the temperature on the hot air blower is set to 50-70° C. A temperature of 80 °C may not be exceeded in any case.
